Microscopy irradiation sensor

The MC-MQS/OVV is a quantum sensor built in the format of a microscope slide. It measures photosynthetically active radiation as photon flux density (PPFD, µmol m⁻² s⁻¹) directly at the specimen plane - the position a sample would occupy on the microscope stage.

Sensor design

The sensor body has the outline of a microscope slide (76 × 26 × 5.5 mm), so it can be mounted on any conventional stage and moved with the stage controls. Light is collected through a diffuser of 0.2 mm diameter. A locator mark on the housing makes the position of the pinhole visible under the objective, so the sensor can be centred in the light spot without searching. The diffuser consists of a resin containing a fluorescence dye, which gives the sensor its quantum response over the PAR range.

Two versions

The MC-MQS/OVV is the bare sensor with a BNC connector and is read out directly by the ULM-500 Universal Light Meter. The MC-MQS set adds a preamplifier and is the configuration used with the MICROSCOPY-PAM.
